Collective Mark No. 1

One of the three low Geneva numbers absent from the printed roster, though the mark itself was registered in the same issue: a later notice cites its origin to FOSC N° 168 du 21 juillet 1934 — the roster issue itself — rather than to any later date, unlike No. 11 (Band 58 p. 2423). Struck on 5 November 1958 in the notice that removed all three Geneva numbers together: Marteau No. 1/2 F. Baumgartner · 1/11 Taubert Frères · 1/26 Ponti, Gennari (Band 76 p. 2957). No change of holder appears in the gazette between those dates.

This number is dated later than the federal list allows. Notices of 1939 and 1951 cite it not to July 1934 but to FOSC No. 213 du 12 septembre 1934 — seven weeks after the roster was printed, though the list dates it to July with the rest. The other two low Geneva numbers do not follow suit: No. 2 is cited to the July issue itself, so the three were not entered together. Taubert held the hammerhead alongside the Geneva key: a transmission of 1939 moves No. 5/11, «Clef» et No. 1/11, «Marteau» as a pair (Band 57 p. 1144), and in 1951 both passed from Taubert frères S.A. to Taubert frères (Band 69 p. 927). Struck on 5 November 1958 in the notice that removed all three Geneva numbers at once — Marteau No. 1/2 F. Baumgartner · 1/11 Taubert Frères · 1/26 Ponti, Gennari (Band 76 p. 2957).

Held by the industry's own trade association throughout, not a case-making firm. Registered on 18 August 1969 to the Union Suisse des fabricants de boîtes de montres (USFB), Biel/Bienne, alongside the crossbow mark 5/10 on the same notice (Band 87 p. 1905). By 2013 the mark belonged to the Union Suisse pour l'Habillage de la Montre (USH) — the association's later name, per independent research by Bernd Riemann dating the change to 3 January 1990, not independently confirmed against the primary gazette — renamed that year to apiah: Cambiamento dei indirizzi e delle ragioni sociali — 1/100 Union Suisse pour l'Habillage de la Montre (USH) (Band 131 p. 30). Still current.

The shortest holding in the register — fourteen months. One holder, struck outright rather than passed on: the notice reads La marque collective n° 1/101 inscrite sous Junod Frères & Cie, à La Chaux-de-Fonds, est radiée (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 53, issue No. 213 of 12 September 1935, p. 2281). The same notice transfers No. 1/147 to Charles Kohli at Tramelan and No. 1/152 from Jacob Leuenberger at Grenchen.

Thirty-two years, and one of the few roster entries outside La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle. In the founding roster of July 1934 (Band 52 p. 2045) and struck in 1966: Streichung · Radiation — Marteau (sans manche) — Born, Jean, succ. de Amez-Droz & Cie, Tramelan, No. 1/102, citing the roster issue of 21 July 1934 (Band 84 p. 2768). The deletion cites the original registration directly, so no change of holder was ever published — the succession to Jean Born shows only in the firm’s name. The notice calls the device Marteau sans manche, the hammer without a handle.

Sixty-one years and four holders — the longest chain traced here, every step in the gazette. In the founding roster of July 1934 as Baumann, Benguerel et Cie (Band 52 p. 2045); the firm’s name altered in 1942 (Band 60 p. 171, the same page that struck No. 211); to Jaquet & Etevenard in 1957 (Band 75 p. 1570); to A. Jaquet in 1972 (Band 90 p. 2597); to Pro-Boîtes SA in 1977 (Band 95 p. 1530); and struck in February 1995 — Löschung · Radiation — 1/103 Pro-Boîtes SA, 2300 La Chaux-de-Fonds (Band 113 p. 740). The firm followed: Pro-Boîtes SA of rue Jardinière 107 was declared bankrupt in December 1995, ten months after the mark was struck (Band 113 p. 6569).

Sixty-six years across several holders, with one step not directly cited. In 1955 the mark passed from Raoul Grimm to Jean Grimm — Trasmissione — Marque Grimm, Raoul, La Chaux-de-Fonds (FOSC. No. 168 du 21 juillet 1934) — 1/104 à Grimm, Jean, La Chaux-de-Fonds — citing back to the founding roster itself rather than to any registration in between (Band 73 p. 1527). From there it is fully cited: to Cristalor SA in 1970 (Band 88 p. 471) and to CEC SA in 1991 (Band 109 p. 3857), reaching the present holder, a Cartier company. One thing is unresolved: the same volume carries what reads as a 1937 strike of 1/104, on the identical page that registered No. 353 to Stila SA (Band 55 p. 920) — whether this was a fast strike-and-reissue, as with No. 127, or an adjacent, unrelated entry has not been settled.

Forty years under one name. In the founding roster of July 1934 (Band 52 p. 2045) and struck in the notice of 16 May 1974 — the same entry that renamed Gabus Frères to Oracier SA and Charles Dubois to Cédex (Band 92 p. 1358). No earlier or later holder.

In the founding roster of July 1934 (Band 52 p. 2045) and struck in 1941 — Löschungen · Radiations. No. 1/106, «Marteau». Würsten, Louis, fils, La Chaux-de-Fonds — in the same notice that removed Nos. 130 and 137 (Band 59 p. 1256). The deletion cites not the roster but a later entry, F. o. s. du c. n° 98 du 28 avril 1936, so the number was re-entered at some point after 1934; No. 130 on the same page cites the roster directly. The 1 January date is the federal list’s placeholder. The list spells the name Wursten; the gazette gives Würsten.

Father and successor, eighteen years. In the founding roster of July 1934 as François Cattin (Band 52 p. 2045); the number passed to Cattin, H., succ. de François Cattin in a transfer published 19 December 1945 (Band 63 p. 3177). Struck on 13 March 1952, the deletion appearing under Löschungen · Radiations in the issue of that date, citing the 1945 transfer (Band 70 p. 699). The same page records No. 1/128 passing from Jung & fils to Jung & Cie.

Fifty years, three holders, and a move over the mountain. In the founding roster of July 1934 (Band 52 p. 2045); to Fabrique de boîtes de montres or Roger Parel SA in 1945 (Band 63 p. 3177), whose seat moved from La Chaux-de-Fonds to St-Imier the following year (Band 64 p. 1951). In 1962 the mark passed on: 1/108 — Fabrique de boîtes de montres en or Roger Parel S.A., à St-Imier (FOSC N° 261 du 6 novembre 1948) à Jacques Beiner, à St-Imier — on the page that also carried No. 1/11 to Manufacture Taubert of Geneva (Band 80 p. 2135). Struck on 5 January 1984, in the same notice as No. 218, the other Beiner house (Band 102 p. 42).

In the founding roster of July 1934 as Châtelain, Sandoz & Cie (Band 52 p. 2045). Renamed on 20 August 1956 — sans manche 1/109 — Châtelain, Sandoz & Cie, à La Chaux-de-Fonds (FOSC No. 168 du 21 juillet 1934), à Châtelain et Witz, fabrique Oréade (Band 74 p. 2161). Became a company on 7 February 1995: Cambiamento di ragione sociale — 1/109 — Oréade, Girardin & Cie., La Chaux-de-Fonds — neu: Oréade Manufacture de boîtes SA (Band 113 p. 740), following an intermediate step to Girardin & Cie not independently found. The federal list's own record gives the deletion as 1 November 2019 — that notice has not yet surfaced in the digitized gazette, though the year is close enough to the edge of current coverage that it may still be findable.

Six years. In the founding roster of July 1934 (Band 52 p. 2045) and struck in 1940 — Löschungen · Radiations. No. 1/112, «Marteau». G. & C. Ducommun S.A. (Band 58 p. 2423). The 1 January date is the federal list’s placeholder; the notice falls late in 1940. The same page records a change of name affecting hammerhead No. 1/2 and Geneva key No. 5/2 together — one firm holding both marks.

Still in use, and the longest unbroken line in the register — a founding number that has never been struck. In the roster of July 1934 as A. & M. Favre & Perret; shortened to Favre & Perret in 1960 (Band 78 p. 3471); incorporated in 1966 — Favre & Perret, La Chaux-de-Fonds No. 1/115 à Favre & Perret SA. (Band 84 p. 2032). In 2011 it passed to a maison rather than a case shop: 1/115 Manufacture Favre et Perret SA, 12c rue du Crêt-du-Locle — nouveau: Montres Breguet SA, 23 place de la Tour (Band 129 p. 45) — recorded on the same page that struck ten other hammerheads that year. Where those numbers ended, this one changed hands and continued.

One holder, and the oldest participation documented here. Struck on 13 March 1952, the notice reads Marque collective No. 1/116 — Flückiger & Cie, La Chaux-de-Fonds (FOSC. du 2 juillet 1926 / 2 mai 1934) (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 70 p. 700). That 1926 citation is eight years before the roster and is the reason this page treats the register as older than the 1934 list. The deletion falls in the same issue that struck No. 107 and is the only hammerhead entry found so far citing a date from the year the mark was created.

Struck on 4 May 2022, per the federal list itself — the source for this date, since e-periodica's digitized run of the gazette ends in early 2020, before this event could have been published there. Independent research by Bernd Riemann (via Boettcher, vintagewatchstraps.com) traces the firm three steps further back than the federal list shows — Gunther & Co (1934), Gunther & Co SA (1937), Guillod Gunther SA (1972) — but that earlier succession has not been independently confirmed against the primary gazette and is included here as secondary research, not primary citation. The firm held two hammerhead numbers at once, 117 and 121.

Thirty-eight years, two names. In the founding roster of July 1934 as Gindraux & Cie (Band 52 p. 2045); incorporated as Gindraux SA in 1970, in a notice that moved the firm’s hammerhead, its FFBA and its crossbow together (Band 88 p. 2335). Struck on 30 August 1972 — Löschung · Radiation — Marteau No. 1/119, Gindraux SA, La Chaux-de-Fonds (Band 90 p. 2291). The firm’s individual maker’s mark, No. 2246, was struck on the same page.

Struck the same day as the firm's other hammerhead number, 117 — 4 May 2022, per the federal list itself, the source for this date since e-periodica's gazette coverage ends before that event. Riemann's independent research (via Boettcher, vintagewatchstraps.com) places the same firm history behind this number too, but that earlier succession has not been confirmed against the primary gazette and is secondary research, not primary citation.

The firm's second hammerhead number, struck the same day as No. 109. In the founding roster of July 1934 (Band 52 p. 2045); the same succession applies — Châtelain, Sandoz & Cie to Châtelain et Witz (1956) to Oréade Manufacture de boîtes SA (1995), sourced under No. 109. The federal list's own record gives the deletion as 1 November 2019; that notice has not yet surfaced in the digitized gazette.

Four holders across forty-six years, every step in the gazette. In the founding roster of July 1934 as Ferrier & Co (Band 52 p. 2045); to Albert Ferrier in a transfer published 19 December 1942 (Band 60 p. 2884); to Ferrier, Albert, S.A. in December 1944 (Band 62 p. 2769); and on 28 June 1946 Transmission à: Pfenninger et Cie SA, La Chaux-de-Fonds (Band 64 p. 1952). Struck on 26 June 1980 in the same notice that removed Gabus Frères Oracier at No. 141, together with Nos. 201, 219 and 220 (Band 98 p. 2182). The range in the row above is the federal list’s, running from the number’s first registration to its deletion whoever held it; Pfenninger held it only from 1946. The list spells the name Pfenniger; the gazette gives Pfenninger.

Seventy-seven years, and the number left the watch cantons at the end. In the founding roster of July 1934 (Band 52 p. 2045). Renamed in 1981 — Nr. 1/126 — Bräuchi & Humbert SA, boîtes de montre, La Chaux-de-Fonds à: Orac SA — in a notice that carried the firm’s individual mark No. 39 through the same change (Band 99 pp. 50–51). Struck on 19 July 2011: 1/126 Orac SA, André Bräuchi, Case postale 81, 1462 Yvonand, alongside the firm’s FFBA mark 3/52 and No. 1/370 (Band 129 p. 34). Yvonand is in canton Vaud — as with No. 151, which ended at Winterthur, the federal list records a town the firm had long since left.

Struck and re-issued inside a single year — the fastest turnaround documented here. In the founding roster of July 1934 as Schläppi & Cie (Band 52 p. 2045), the number passed to G. Schläppi in 1946 (Band 64 p. 1952) and later to Edmor SA, from whom it was struck in 1983: Löschungen · Radiations — Marteau 1/127 — Edmor SA, La Chaux-de-Fonds (Band 101 p. 1035). Weeks later it was issued again — Nr. 1/127 — Date de l’enregistrement: 24 juin 1983 — Balet G. SA, boîtes de montres, 2300 La Chaux-de-Fonds, the same notice registering the firm’s individual mark and its founder’s mark (Band 101 p. 2746). Struck for good on 9 September 1992, alongside No. 176 Bielna SA and Bielna’s FFBA and crossbow marks (Band 110 p. 4250). The federal list dates this holding to 1934; it began in 1983.

Thirty-two years, father and sons. In the founding roster of July 1934 (Band 52 p. 2045) and renamed in 1952: No. 697 — Jung & fils, La Chaux-de-Fonds … Marque collective 1/128 à Jung & Cie — on the page that struck No. 107 and registered No. 220 (Band 70 p. 699). Struck on 29 January 1966: Cancellazioni — No. 1/128 — Jung & Cie, La Chaux-de-Fonds (FOSC N° 168 du 21 juillet 1934), in the same notice as No. 177 (Band 84 p. 321).

Seventy-five years at one address. In the founding roster of July 1934 (Band 52 p. 2045); the firm appears as Junod & Fils in a 1941 notice on the same page that struck Nos. 106, 130 and 137 (Band 59 p. 1256). In 1999 it was renamed: 1/129 Junod & Cie. SA, Fabrique de boîtes or, 38 boulevard des Eplatures — nouveau: JSG SA, same address (Band 117 p. 7829). Struck on 2 November 2009 — 1/129 JSG SA, 38 boulevard des Eplatures — in a notice that also removed the firm’s individual founder’s mark, No. 30 (Band 127 p. 46).

One holder from the 1934 roster to its deletion, struck in the same notice as No. 137 (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 59 p. 1256).

Fifty-eight years under one name — the longest single holding traced here. In the founding roster of July 1934 as Monnier & Co (Band 52 p. 2045) and struck on 10 March 1992, when the firm gave up all three of its collective marks at once: Marteau no 1/132, FFBA no 3/47, Arbalète no 4/47 — Monnier & Cie, 2300 La Chaux-de-Fonds (Band 110 p. 1101). No change of holder appears in the gazette between those two dates. The federal list gives the name as Eric Monnier; the gazette gives the firm.

One holder throughout. Struck in 1940, in the same notice that records Gabus Frères becoming Usine Safir — No. 1/135 and No. 1/141 appear on the same page (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 58 p. 1178).

Fifty-four years, one holder. In the founding roster of July 1934 (Band 52 p. 2045) and struck in 1988 — Cancellazione — Nr. 1/136 — Spillmann C. R. & Co. SA., La Chaux-de-Fonds (Band 106 p. 1315). No change of holder appears in the gazette between those dates. The towns do not agree: the gazette places the firm at La Chaux-de-Fonds when the mark was struck, while the federal list gives Chêne-Bourg, in canton Geneva — an address the firm can only have taken afterwards, since the list records each holder as it stood in 2007, long after the mark was gone.

One holder from the 1934 roster to its deletion, struck alongside No. 130 in a single notice (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 59 p. 1256).

Bernard and Charles Dubois, in partnership at Rue de la Côte 2. Listed in the founding roster of July 1934 (Band 52 p. 2045) and struck in December 1947 (Band 65 p. 3642). Two weeks earlier the brothers had each registered separately — Charles at No. 170, Bernard at No. 171 — so this number ends where those two begin. The partnership dated from 1918 as successors to Jaccard et Cie.

A gold case factory at 3 et 5 rue des Envers, Le Locle, named for its own street, constituted on 24 December 1930 before the notary Robert Ecklin. No earlier or later holder: the number was issued once and struck when the firm failed. The two dates on this row belong to different registers — the bankruptcy was closed on 28 December 1938 and published on 16 January 1939, while the mark itself was not struck until June (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 49 p. 3; Band 52 p. 2649; Band 57 pp. 137 and 1144).

A Le Locle family workshop that merged with No. 173 in the late 1960s and later took the Classicor name. The 1957, 1960 and 1969 name changes are recorded in the Handelsamtsblatt (Band 75 p. 2113, Band 78 p. 3471, Band 87 p. 734); the 1969 notice covers 1/143 and 1/173 together. The move to La Chaux-de-Fonds appears in Band 101 p. 1035, and the deletion in issue No. 47 of 10 March 1992. The Classicor renaming of 1978 is the one step in this chain not yet found in the mark register.

Twenty-two years under one name, and one of the few Tramelan entries. In the founding roster of July 1934 (Band 52 p. 2045) and struck in January 1957 — Cancellazioni · Marteau sans manche — No. 1/147, Kohli, Charles, Tramelan — in the same notice that removed Nos. 150 and 166 (Band 75 p. 141). No change of holder appears in the gazette between those dates.

In the founding roster of July 1934 as Vuilliomenet & Cie. of Bienne. In February 1936 the number passed to the incorporated firm — the notice reads «La marque collective n° 1/148 inscrite sous Vuilliomenet & Cie., à Bienne, a été transmise à la maison Vuilliomenet & Cie. S. A., à Bienne» — and the register filed it under Transmissions, the same heading it used for genuine changes of ownership. Struck in 1943 Löschungen · Radiations, No. 1/148, «Marteau», Vuilliomenet & Co. SA (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 52 p. 2045; Band 54 p. 305; Band 61 p. 1543). The deletion date shown is the federal list's; the notice itself falls in mid-1943.

Forty-one years under one name, the longest single holding traced here. In the founding roster of July 1934 (Band 52 p. 2045) and struck in 1975 (Band 93 p. 1332). No earlier or later holder.

Listed in the founding roster of July 1934 as Ernest Boehlen, Granges — the French name for Grenchen (Band 52 p. 2045). Struck in January 1957 in a single notice that also removed No. 147 at Tramelan and No. 166 at Le Locle, three towns at once (Band 75 p. 141). No earlier or later holder.

Seventy-seven years — the second-longest holding traced here, and one of the few Solothurn entries. In the founding roster of July 1934 as Hermann Heggendorn of Grenchen (Band 52 p. 2045); incorporated in 1945 — No. 1/151, «Marteau» — Heggendorn, Hermann, Grenchen (FOSC n° 168 du 21 juillet 1934) — Transmission à: Heggendorn, Hermann AG., Grenchen (Band 63 p. 3177). Struck on 30 November 2011 in the notice that removed six hammerheads together (Band 129 p. 45). By then the firm had left the watchmaking cantons altogether: the deletion gives its address as Schützengasse 73, Winterthur.

Fifty years, and for forty-eight of them a Solothurn mark, not a Neuchâtel one. In the founding roster of July 1934 as Leuenberger & Cie of Grenchen; incorporated in 1955 — Marteau sans manche 1/152 — Leuenberger & Cie, Grenchen (FOSC No. 168 du 21 juillet 1934) à Leuenberger & Cie S.A. (Band 73 p. 2903). The mark passed out of the family in 1979: Nr. 1/152 — Leuenberger & Co. AG., boîtes de montres, Grenchen SO à: Curty Jean, boîtes de montres, Granges SO (Band 97 p. 2097). Only in 1982 did it leave the town — Changement de domicile — Nr. 1/152 — Curty Jean, Grenchen, siège transféré à: 2300 La Chaux-de-Fonds (Band 100 p. 655) — and it was struck two years later (Band 102 p. 308). The federal list gives La Chaux-de-Fonds, which the mark reached only in its last two years.

Seventeen months, and the only Geneva firm traced here. The house behind the Helbros brand, at Rue de la Muse 10. It held three collective marks at once — the hammerhead 1/156, the FFBA 3/49 and the crossbow 4/49 — and all three were struck in a single notice of December 1935 (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 53 p. 3137). The firm itself failed the following year: the bankruptcy and creditors' schedule run through Band 54 (1936) at pp. 739, 1135 and 1571.

Seventy-seven years at Le Noirmont, father to son. In the founding roster of July 1934 as César Arnoux (Band 52 p. 2045); incorporated in 1959 (Band 77 p. 3223), a notice that also carried the firm’s individual mark No. 835 and its FFBA No. 156 through the same change; and in 1985 Nr. 1/158 — Arnoux César SA, fabrique de boîtes de montres, Le Noirmont à: Arnoux Jean (Band 103 p. 973, the page that also altered No. 183). Struck on 30 November 2011 in the notice that removed six hammerheads together (Band 129 p. 45).

Still in use, ninety-two years after the founding roster. In the roster of July 1934 as Joseph Erard, an individual (FOSC N° 168 du 21 juillet 1934); passed to his sons' company, Erard, les fils de Joseph, Soc. à r.l., by 1945 (Band 63 p. 1553); and became Joseph Erard SA in 2002, moving address within Le Noirmont in the same notice (Band 120 p. 36). The federal list's current holder, La Montre Hermès SA, has not surfaced as a distinct transfer notice in the digitized gazette — the acquisition by Hermès is recorded here on the strength of the federal list itself, not a found citation.

The number was dead for twelve years. In the founding roster of July 1934 as Miserez, A.-C. of Saignelégier, then struck in 1936 — Radiation · Löschung — No. 1/163 — Miserez, A.-C., Saignelégier (Band 54 p. 1591). It was issued again on 4 April 1948 to Miserez, A. C., S.A. (Band 66 p. 3019), passed to Alphonse Miserez in 1957 (Band 75 p. 2113), and became Miserez SA in 1991 in a notice that moved the hammerhead with the firm’s FFBA and crossbow together, Nr. 1/163 - 3/24 - 4/24 (Band 109 p. 83). Struck as BGM Miserez SA on 30 November 2011, again alongside FFBA 3/24 (Band 129 p. 45). The federal list dates this holding to 1934; the gazette dates it to 1948.

The federal list gives Peseux for this number; both primary records say Le Locle. The founding roster of July 1934 lists Henri Jeanneret, Le Locle (Band 52 p. 2045), and the deletion notice of January 1957 reads Jeanneret & Cie, Henri, fabrique de boîtes de montres, Le Locle (Band 75 p. 141) — so the firm was at Le Locle from the first day to the last. It also held an individual melter's punch, No. 55, cancelled in the same sweep. Struck alongside Nos. 147 and 150.

Two years, and the shortest life of any founding-roster number. In the roster of July 1934 (Band 52 p. 2045) and struck in September 1936, in a single entry that also removed No. 204: the notice records the Bähler mark à Fleurier, est radiée before turning to Girardin at La Chaux-de-Fonds (Band 54 p. 2212). One of the very few Val-de-Travers entries in the register.

Thirty-five years at Le Locle, a few streets from Gabus Frères. The federal list dates this number to 25 November 1947, but the gazette registers it on 6 novembre 1947 to Dubois, Charles & Cie — on the page that also entered Nos. 207 and 352 (Band 65 p. 3641). The firm was renamed in 1974: Marteau — Dubois Charles & Cie., boîtes de montres, Le Locle NE, Nr. 1/170 à: Cédex, Chs. Dubois SA — in the very notice that carried No. 141 from Usines Safir to Gabus Frères, Oracier SA (Band 92 p. 1358). Struck on 16 June 1982 together with the firm’s FFBA mark: Marteau Nr. 1/170 · FFBA Nr. 3/53 — Cedex Chs. Dubois SA, 2400 Le Locle (Band 100 p. 1951).

One of the last numbers issued, and the only one whose registration itself falls just past the digitized run of the gazette — e-periodica's coverage reaches 3 January 2020, six days before this date. The 9 January 2020 registration is cited here to the federal list directly, the primary source for a fact this recent, rather than to a found notice. No later change is recorded.

The other half of a family split. In 1947 the Dubois brothers divided No. 140 between them, Charles taking 170 and Bernard this number. The firm appears as Bernard Dubois & Cie in 1959, becomes Bernard Dubois in 1960 (Band 78 p. 3471, the page that also renamed Nos. 115 and 143), and incorporates in 1983: Marteau 1/171 — Dubois Bernhard, Le Locle à: Dubois Bernhard SA, the same notice carrying the firm’s individual mark No. 1678 (Band 101 p. 1035). Struck on 20 January 1987 — Cancellazione — Nr. 1/171 — Dubois SA, Le Locle (Band 105 p. 235). The number was issued again in 2020 to BBHG SA of Les Brenets, listed separately above.

Nardin in 1965 (Band 83 p. 2178), was renamed Pierre-Antoine Nardin & Cie in 1969 (Band 87 p. 734), and moved from La Chaux-de-Fonds to Le Locle in 1970 (Band 88 p. 636). Struck in 1977, when the firm gave up all three of its collective marks at once: Marteau No. 1/174 · FFBA No. 3/46 · Arbalète No. 4/46 — Huguenin SA, boîtes de montres, Le Locle NE (Band 95 p. 3295). The Huguenin name runs further back in the trade — Huguenin Frères & Cie, Fabrique «Niel», appears from the 1930s — but those earlier entries concern the firm’s individual mark, not this number.

Thirty years, one holder. Registered on 23 February 1962, in the notice that also entered Nos. 178 and 179 on three different days and published all three together that July (Band 80 p. 2135). Struck on 9 September 1992 — Löschungen · Radiations — 1/127 Balet G SA · 1/176 Bielna SA · 3/2 – 4/2 Bielna SA — the firm giving up its hammerhead, its FFBA and its crossbow in one entry (Band 110 p. 4250). The Biel house was a presence in the town beyond the trade: in April 1955 it subscribed 3,000 francs toward enlarging the Wildermeth children’s hospital.

Three years, the shortest holding traced here. Registered in 1963 — Marteau 1/177 — Queloz, Gérard, fabrique de boîtes de montres, Saignelégier, printed beside the hammerhead device (Band 81 p. 748) — and cited in the deletion as FOSC N° 60 du 15 mars 1963, not the 1 March 1962 the federal list gives. Struck on 29 January 1966 in the same notice as No. 128 (Band 84 p. 321).

Registered as a collective mark on 13 April 1962 and struck in 1969 alongside the Geneva key No. 5/26 in the same notice (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 80 p. 2135; Band 87 p. 2911). No earlier or later holder. Here the mark went before the firm did: Pernador was still trading when it lost the number, entered liquidation in 1970, sold its trademarks to Cristalor SA of La Chaux-de-Fonds — No. 1/104 in this register — and was finally struck off in 1972 (Band 88 pp. 2275 and 2550; Band 90 p. 312).

One holder, sixteen years, and a firm that held three collective marks at once. Registered 26 mars 1962, published with the hammerhead device beside the entry in a notice that also registered No. 176 (Bielna SA, February) and No. 178 (Pernador SA, April) — three numbers, three separate dates, one page (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 80 p. 2135). All three of its marks were struck together in February 1978: Löschungen · Radiations — Marteau Nr. 1/179; FFBA Nr. 3/4; Arbalète Nr. 4/4 — La Centrale SA, fabrique de boîtes de montres, Bienne (Band 96 p. 480). Like Helbein at No. 156, the hammerhead, the silver mark and the crossbow ran together and ended together.

Eight years, one holder, and a Franches-Montagnes firm rather than a Neuchâtel one. Registered in June 1962 and struck in 1970 — Löschung · Radiation — Marteau — U. Paratte & Fils S. à r. l., No. 1/180, Le Noirmont (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 88 p. 1130). Neither date is a placeholder: the federal list and the gazette agree. No change of holder appears between them.

Forty-eight years in the Jura, under four versions of the Piquerez name. Registered in 1963 — 1/183 Piquerez S.A., Erwin, fabrique de boîtes de montres, Bassecourt (Band 81 p. 1365); altered in 1985 (Band 103 p. 973); Piquerez-Bourquard SA à: Piquerez E. SA in 1990 (Band 108 p. 1130), confirmed as Marteau sans manche 1/183: E. Piquerez SA in 1991 (Band 109 p. 3857); and to Nouvelle Piquerez by 1996 (Band 114 p. 645). Struck on 30 November 2011 in a notice that removed six hammerheads together, among them 1/163 BGM Miserez SA, Saignelégier and 1/359 F. de G. SA, Chêne-Bourg (Band 129 p. 45).

The federal list dates this number to 1938; the gazette dates it to 1963. Struck on 29 January 1966 — Kollektivmarke · Streichungen · Radiations — No. 1/184 — Schmitz & Cie, Nidau (FOSC. N° 264 du 11 novembre 1963) — in the same block that removed Nos. 128 and 177 (Band 84 p. 321). The citation is the number’s own registration entry, of 11 November 1963, which places it a quarter of a century later than the list allows and in sequence with its neighbours: No. 180 was entered in 1962, No. 183 in April 1963, No. 177 that March. The 1 January date in the list is a placeholder. Nidau, on the Bieler See, is one of the few Bernese entries in the register.

Forty-six years, two names. In the founding roster of July 1934 as Bodemer & Aab (Band 52 p. 2045); incorporated in November 1968 — Kollektivmarke · Firmaänderung — No. 1/201 marteau sans manche — Bodemer & Aab, La Chaux-de-Fonds à: Hermann Bodemer SA (Band 86 p. 2526). The same notice carried the firm’s individual maker’s mark, No. 495, through the identical change — both marks altered together. Struck on 26 June 1980 in the notice that also removed Nos. 123, 141, 219 and 220 (Band 98 p. 2182).

Eighteen months, the shortest holding in the register. The federal list dates this number to the July 1934 roster, but the deletion cites its registration to F. o. s. du c. n° 74, du 29 mars 1935 — eight months later. Struck in September 1936: La marque collective n° 1/204 (F. o. s. du c. n° 74, du 29 mars 1935), inscrite sous Girardin, Marcel, à La Chaux-de-Fonds, est radiée, in the same entry that removed No. 168 at Fleurier (Band 54 p. 2212).

Forty-two years, and one of the few numbers to change town. In the founding roster of July 1934 at La Chaux-de-Fonds (Band 52 p. 2045); the seat moved to Neuchâtel in January 1942 — Sitzverlegung · Changement de siège (Band 60 p. 171, the same page that struck No. 211); incorporated as Miroz SA in 1946 (Band 64 p. 1952, the page that also carries No. 123’s transfer to Pfenninger); and struck in 1976 — Löschung · Radiation — Nr. Marteau 1/205 — Méroz SA (Band 94 p. 2495). The gazette spells the name Miroz in 1942 and 1946 and Méroz by 1976.

Twenty-six years under one name, and the only Peseux firm in the register. The registration notice gives a different date from the federal list: it reads Date de l'enregistrement: 22 septembre 1947, with A. J. Niestlé, fabrique de boîtes de montres, Peseux, 207 as the participant (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 65 p. 3641, issue of 9 December 1947). The same page registers No. 170 on 6 November 1947, though the federal list gives both numbers the same date. Struck in the batch notice of 16 May 1974 that also removed No. 105 and renamed Nos. 141 and 170 (Band 92 p. 1358).

One holder throughout. The deletion notice reads Löschung — Radiation No. 1/211, «Marteau», Spichiger, Hoffmann & Cie, La Chaux-de-Fonds, and it appears in the volume for 1942, not 1941 (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 60 p. 171).

Eighteen years under one name, at Le Locle. In the founding roster of July 1934 (Band 52 p. 2045) and struck in June 1952 — Marque collective No. 1/212 … Streichung · Radiation · Cancellazione — Etienne, Marcel, Le Locle (Band 70 p. 1507). No change of holder appears in the gazette between those dates. The same notice carries the Geneva key 5/1 and 5/22, a reminder that the two registers were kept side by side on the page.

The one number here that changed hands rather than changed name. Jacot fils, decorators of gold cases at Rue Beau-Site 17, had been in the commercial register since 2 November 1918. In 1942 the mark passed to Montandon frères and Jacot fils gave up the precious-metals trade, its dealing permit cancelled in the same volume (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 60 p. 171–172). Montandon & Cie succeeded Montandon frères in December 1946, and the mark was struck in 1967 (Band 85 p. 782–783).

One holder, under four years — in the founding roster of July 1934 and struck in March 1938: Löschung — Radiation. No. 215, «Marteau» — Schwab, Gérald, La Chaux-de-Fonds (F. o. s. du c. n° 168 du 21 juillet 1934) (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 52 p. 2045; Band 56 p. 638). The deletion notice gives his forename as Gérald; the federal list carries only the initial.

Twenty-nine years under one name. In the founding roster of July 1934 and struck on 17 June 1963, the notice printing the hammerhead device beside the entry: Lampert, Jean, La Chaux-de-Fonds (FOSC N° 168 du 21 juillet 1934) — Marteau 217. A Geneva key, No. 5 for C. Markowski, was struck in the same notice (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 52 p. 2045; Band 81 p. 1771).

Fifty years, and the second of the two Beiner houses. In the founding roster of July 1934 (Band 52 p. 2045), the number was held by Gianoli — «Gianoli», bijouterie et boîtes fantaisie, La Chaux-de-Fonds in a 1946 entry (Band 64 p. 1951) — and passed in 1959: Marque collective Marteau 218 — Gianoli, La Chaux-de-Fonds (FOSC No. 148 du 28 juin 1946), à J. Beiner, succ. (Band 77 p. 429). Struck on 5 January 1984 — Nr. 1/218 — Beiner J. succ. de Gianoli Egidio, fabrique de boîtes de montres, La Chaux-de-Fonds — in the same notice as No. 108 at St-Imier (Band 102 p. 42). The deletion gives the predecessor’s full name, Egidio Gianoli, which the federal list does not.

Forty-six years under one family. In the founding roster of July 1934 (Band 52 p. 2045), with a further entry of 11 July 1947 cited in later notices. The firm appears as Soguel Frères in a 1957 change of name (Band 75 p. 141, the page that also struck Nos. 147, 150 and 166), and in 1963 Soguel Frères & Cie, à La Chaux-de-Fonds … à Soguel & Co (Band 81 p. 3192). Struck on 26 June 1980 in the notice that also removed Nos. 123, 141 and 201 (Band 98 p. 2182).

A jeweller, his widow, and his successor. The federal list dates this number to 1934, but it was not in the founding roster: the gazette registers it on 18 octobre 1951 as «Marteau 1/220» Baillod, Henri, La Chaux-de-Fonds (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 70 p. 699 — the same page that struck No. 107). The firm appears as Henri Baillod, «Le Joaillier» in 1957 (Band 75 p. 1570); passed to Mme Vve. Henri Baillod in 1960 (Band 78 p. 1611); and to M.-H. Baillod succ. in 1966 (Band 84 p. 2768). Struck on 26 June 1980 in the notice that also removed No. 123 and Gabus Frères Oracier at No. 141 (Band 98 p. 2182).

Eighty-two years — the longest span traced here. In the founding roster of July 1934 (Band 52 p. 2045). The number passed from William to Simone Willemin in 1972 (Band 90 p. 2597), and in 1973 to Revor (Band 91 p. 854). The gazette then corrected itself: a notice headed Correction · Rettificazione gives Marteau à: Revor, Brusa Walter, No. 1/351 (statt / au lieu de / invece di …) — the name had been printed Buser (Band 91 p. 1274). Struck on 30 March 2016, together with the firm’s FFBA mark: 1/351 Revor, Walter Brusa, Fabr. de boîtes or; création-bijoux, 152 rue du Nord · 3/54 Revor, Walter Brusa (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 134 p. 47).

Still in use, eighty-nine years after registration. The federal list dates this holding to 25 September 1998; the gazette registers it over sixty years earlier — Date de l'enregistrement: 9 mars 1937 — Stila S.A., fabrique de boîtes de montres, La Chaux-de-Fonds — on the same page that struck No. 104 the same year (Band 55 p. 920). No rename or transfer has surfaced since; the firm the federal list shows today is the one registered in 1937.

Thirty-one years and three versions of one family firm. Registered in 1973 as Grandjean et Cie, 1/354, La Chaux-de-Fonds (Band 91 p. 1274 — the page that also carries the printed correction to No. 351). Incorporated in 1977: Marteau Nr. 1/354 — Grandjean et Cie., La Chaux-de-Fonds NE à: Grandjean et Cie. SA, in a notice that also moved the firm’s Clef Nr. 5/34 and carried No. 103 to Pro-Boîtes SA (Band 95 p. 1530). Struck in 2004 — Löschungen · Radiations · Canzellazioni — 1/354 Grandjean Sàrl, Manufacture de boîtes (Band 122 p. 54). A La Chaux-de-Fonds firm holding the Geneva key alongside the hammerhead, as Centre-Boîtes of Bienne did at No. 400.

Four years, one holder, and a move within the Jura. Registered on 25 November 1977 — Nr. 1/355 — Date de l'enregistrement: 25 novembre 1977 — Viatte, Henri, boîtes de montres, 2852 Courtételle JU — alongside the firm's FFBA mark, 3/63, registered the same day (Band 97 p. 473). Struck on 29 October 1981, by which point the firm had moved to Delémont (Band 99 p. 3408). Both dates in the federal list are exact.

Registered on 3 August 1978 — Registrierungsdatum: 3. August 1978 — to Simon & Membrez SA (Band 97 p. 473). The federal list's compound name is explained by a formal merger: on 17 May 2022, Blancpain SA took over all assets and liabilities of Simon et Membrez S.A., Delémont, both companies already held by the same shareholder — Fusion: reprise des actifs et passifs de Simon et Membrez S.A., à Delémont... selon contrat de fusion du 17.05.2022, published 30 May 2022 (SOGC publication HR02-1005485528, via BAZG's eSHAB portal, not the digitized Handelsamtsblatt run). This is the one number this session where a different search tool, not a better search term, closed the gap.

Nineteen years, one holder, and a firm transfer rather than a new registration. Registered on 28 December 1978 — Paratte Bernard, boîtes de montres, 2300 La Chaux-de-Fonds NE — Nr. 1/358 — Date de l'enregistrement: 28 décembre 1978 — the same day as the firm's FFBA mark, 3/64, under the heading Firmenübertragung (Band 97 p. 2097). Struck on 3 March 1997, with 3/064, in the same notice that removed Bonnet J. SA's own mark (Band 115 p. 1445). Both dates in the federal list are exact.

Twenty-six years, registered to a woman in her own name. The entry of 1985 reads Nr. 1/360 — Date de l’enregistrement: 17 juin 1985 — Jaquet-Baume Thérèse, boîtes de montres, 2300 La Chaux-de-Fonds, printed beside the hammerhead device (Band 104 p. 2918). In 1997 the business incorporated and moved across town: 1/360 Jaquet-Baume Thérèse, 137 rue du Doubs — nouveau: Jaquet-Baume SA, 10 rue du Premier-Mars (Band 115 p. 1445). Struck on 30 November 2011 in the notice that removed at least seven hammerheads together, among them Nos. 151, 158, 163, 183, 359 and 364 (Band 129 p. 45). The federal list’s registration date, 17.06.1985, is exact.

Still in use, seventy-five years after registration under its first name. Independent research by Bernd Riemann (via Boettcher, vintagewatchstraps.com) places Bruno Affolter SA in the founding roster of July 1934; that origin has not been independently confirmed against the primary gazette. The rename to Les Artisans Boîtiers SA in 2009 is documented directly — Cambiamento degli indirizzi e delle ragioni sociali — 1/361 — Bruno Affolter SA, Cernil-Antoine 8-10, 2300 La Chaux-de-Fonds — neu: Les Artisans Boitiers SA, 8-10, rue du Cernil-Antoine (Band 127 p. 46). No change since.

Constituted at Le Locle in July 1986 and registered for the mark three months later (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 104 p. 2980; Band 105 p. 235). No earlier holder — the number was issued once and never reassigned. The firm went bankrupt; the creditors' schedule is in Band 110 p. 1590, and the bankruptcy was closed in June 1992, three months after the mark was struck.

Twenty-five years at one address in the Franches-Montagnes, ending inside a luxury group. Registered in 1987 — Nr. 1/363 — Date de l’enregistrement: 15 sept. 1987 — Donzé-Baume SA, boîtes de montres, 2724 Les Breuleux — on the page that also registered No. 364 to Ruedin (Band 106 p. 176). In 2009 the entry was rewritten: 1/363 Donzé-Baume SA, 6 rue du Curé-Beuret, 2345 Les Breuleux — nouveau: Donzé-Baume, Branch of Richemont International SA, same address (Band 127 p. 60). Struck on 27 September 2012 together with the firm’s FFBA 3/34 and crossbow 4/34 (Band 130 p. 33). The federal list’s registration date is exact.

Twenty-four years, and a move across the Jura. Registered in 1987 — Nr. 1/364 — Date de l’enregistrement: 15 octobre 1987 — Ruedin Georges SA, boîtes de montres, Les Breuleux JU (Band 106 p. 176). Renamed in 2002: 1/364 Georges Ruedin SA, 10 rue de la Combe, 2854 Bassecourt — nouveau: Manufacture Ruedin SA, same address (Band 120 p. 33). Struck on 30 November 2011 in the notice that removed at least ten hammerheads together, among them Nos. 360, 366 and 369 (Band 129 p. 45). The federal list gives the town as Bassecourt; the mark was registered at Les Breuleux.

Twenty-one years. Registered in 1990 — Nr. 1/366 — Date de l’enregistrement: 4 juillet 1990 — Grandjean Eric-M., E.M.G. A late entrant to a system by then nearly at its end. Habra SA took the hammerhead and the FFBA silver mark on the same day, 14 May 1991 (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 109 p. 2993), and both were struck together two and a half years later (Band 111 p. 5423). No earlier or later holder: the whole history of the number is two notices.

Twenty years, one holder, in the Franches-Montagnes. Registered in 1991 — Marteau sans manche 1/369 — Date de l’enregistrement: 3 mai 1991 (Band 109 p. 2417). Struck on 30 November 2011 — 1/369 Jean Paratte S.à r.l., 33 rue Bel-Air, 2350 Saignelégier — together with the firm’s FFBA mark 3/43, in the notice that removed at least nine hammerheads at once, among them Nos. 151, 158, 163, 183, 359, 360, 364 and 371 (Band 129 p. 45). Both dates in the federal list are exact.

Twenty years to the week, one holder throughout. Registered in 1991 — Marteau sans manche 1/370 — Date de l’enregistrement: 17 juillet 1991 — AS Line SA, montres, 2610 Saint-Imier — on the page that also carried No. 104 to CEC SA and No. 183 to E. Piquerez SA (Band 109 p. 3857). Struck on 19 July 2011: 1/370 AS Line SA, Parc Technologique, 12 rue de la Clef, 2610 St-Imier, in the same notice as No. 126 (Band 129 p. 34). Both dates in the federal list are exact.

Nineteen years, one holder, and a long way from the Jura arc. Registered in 1992 — Kollektivmarken — 371 · 1/371 Froidevaux Frères, 3225 Müntschemier (Band 110 p. 4250). Struck on 30 November 2011 — 1/371 Froidevaux frères, Fabrique de boîtes de montres, Bahnhofstrasse 17, 3225 Müntschemier — with the firm’s FFBA mark 3/65, in the notice that removed at least nine hammerheads together (Band 129 p. 45). Müntschemier is in canton Bern, out on the Seeland plain: the family came from Le Noirmont in the Franches-Montagnes, but the workshop that held the mark was not in the watch valleys at all.

Still in use, twenty-nine years after registration to the individual founder — Kollektivmarke · Marque collective · Marchio collettivo — 1/372 — Registrierungsdatum: 26. Oktober 1993 — 372 Miguel Gil-Ayala, Uhren, 2300 La Chaux-de-Fonds (Band 111 p. 6580), matching the federal list's date exactly. No incorporation notice has surfaced for the move from Miguel Gil-Ayala to Gil Sertissage SA, but nothing in the gazette suggests an interruption — the ordinary evolution from a founder's own name to his company's.

Still in use, under the same name it was registered with. The federal list dates this holding to 25 September 1998; the gazette registers it five years earlier — Kollektivmarke · Marque collective · Marchio collettivo — 1/373 — Registrierungsdatum: 17. Juni 1993 — 373 M.R.P. SA, Manuf. de boîtes de montres, 2942 Alle (Band 111 p. 4421). No transfer or rename has surfaced since — the firm the federal list shows today is the one that registered the mark. Three numbers on this page share the 25.09.1998 date exactly — 356, 365 and this one — which looks like an administrative re-listing rather than each firm's true filing date.

Ten years, one holder, and one of the last numbers issued. Registered in 1994 — Marque collective · Marchio collettivo — Nr. 1/374 — Registrierungsdatum: 24. Januar 1994 — 374 J.-P. Hadorn (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 112 p. 1535). Struck on 10 September 2004 in the notice that also removed Nos. 354 and 367 (Band 122 p. 54). Both dates in the federal list are exact.

Two years and one month, and the only Ticino firm traced here. Registered on 25 February 1994 in the same notice as No. 376, and struck in 1996 alongside the Geneva key No. 5/35 (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 112 p. 4741; Band 114 p. 1764). The three names on the federal sheet are one firm at one address, Via Como 1: Boitor SA became Boîte Or Chiasso SA in 1996.

Still in use. Registered on 18 January 1994 — Registrierungsdatum: 18. Januar 1994 — Neuenschwander Marius, boîtes de montres, 2400 Le Locle, on the same page that registered No. 375 to Boitor S.A. of Chiasso (Band 112 p. 4741). In 2004 the individual proprietorship became a company and moved to La Chaux-de-Fonds: Cambiamenti dei indirizzi e delle ragioni sociali — 1/376 Marius Neuenschwander, Atelier de boîtes de montres, 51, rue des Vieux-Patriotes, 2400 Le Locle — nuovo: Neuenschwander Composants Horlogers SA (Band 122 p. 34, the same page carrying No. 354's deletion). No change since.

Five years, and the gazette dates both ends more precisely than the federal list. Registered in 1969 — not 1970 — and printed with the XXX device beside the entry, alongside the Geneva key 5/40 issued to the same firm (Handelsamtsblatt, Band 87 p. 1363). Struck in 1975: Löschungen · Radiations — Marteau Nr. 1/400, Centre-Boîtes SA, Bienne BE, in the notice that also removed No. 149 and the key (Band 93 p. 1332). The 1 January start date is the federal list’s placeholder. A firm at Bienne holding the Geneva key is worth noting, since that mark is often described as territorial.

The 2012 registration to Galvarex SA is cited to the federal list itself; no gazette notice for it has been found. The rename is confirmed directly — a statutory change dated 22 July 2022, published 28 July 2022: Firma neu: Alleima Saint-Imier SA (SOGC publication HR02-1005531769, via eSHAB). One discrepancy worth flagging rather than smoothing over: that notice names the successor "Alleima Saint-Imier SA," at rue de Beau-Site 8, 2610 St-Imier — the federal list instead shows "Alleima Sonceboz SA," in neighbouring Sonceboz-Sombeval. No further move has been independently confirmed; the two names may reflect a later relocation not yet found, or a naming variant.
